Board of inspiration

Joe UehleinJoe has over 35 years experience in the labor movement in all aspects of organizing, bargaining, coalition building, strategic campaigns, and more. Throughout his trade union career Joe devoted tremendous energy to building bridges between the labor movement and the environmental movement.

Joe is a founding board member of Ceres - Investors and Environmentalists for Sustainable Prosperity. Joe is also a member of the National Advisory Board of the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Joe is also a musician and band leader and has lived his life at the confluence of art and activism. Joe believes that art is a critical complement to activism for no matter how brilliant our attempts to inform it is our ability to inspire that makes the difference.

In 1980 Joe founded the Labor Heritage Foundation, dedicated to working class art and music, and in 2008 Joe founded a new art and activism project that works with the broad progressive movement, the CultureWorks Collective, dedicated to integrating art and activism in ways that help unite and inspire people to achieve progressive change, and exploring the role of art in cultivating our better nature. Joe's band, The U-Liners, is an award winning roots-rock ensemble.
