Linkages to other Standards

The standard is designed to encompass key aspects of sustainability relevant to most consumer products regardless of their sector.

Over time, the standard will build linkages and recognize product-specific (e.g., paper, food, electronics) and issue-specific (fair wages, climate) standards that have achieved broad global uptake, have been developed through a multi-stakeholder process, and adhere to a high level of transparency.

Fair

Fair addresses the treatment of people who work in the product chain. People 4 Earth supports fair business practices that promote economic and social justice for all people involved in the product chain. Fair is divided into worker rights, education and professional development and fair trading practices.
Worker Rights

Working conditions shall be safe and comfortable and the rights of the workers throughout the product chain shall be upheld. The core human rights of workers, as established by the International Labour Organization (ILO), shall be upheld.

Education and Professional Development

The company shall ensure that every worker is trained to perform their job functions capably and safely. Further, the company shall offer opportunities for the professional and personal development of employees.

Fair price/value

Companies in the product chain shall strive for producer-buyer relationships based on fair and ethical trading principles. Buyers shall pay an appropriate price for the value of the product. An appropriate price is based on:

  • sustainability practices (with regard to Pure, Fair, Life and Renew)
  • benchmarks based on best practices on efficiency in the market (cost prices)
  • improvement in quality and lead time
  • product innovation.
