Linkages to other Standards

The standard is designed to encompass key aspects of sustainability relevant to most consumer products regardless of their sector.

Over time, the standard will build linkages and recognize product-specific (e.g., paper, food, electronics) and issue-specific (fair wages, climate) standards that have achieved broad global uptake, have been developed through a multi-stakeholder process, and adhere to a high level of transparency.

Pure

Pure addresses the quality of a product in relation to its impacts on the user and local communities. People 4 Earth promotes authentic products that are healthy and safe for all users. Transparency is integral to all steps of the product chain, especially in the product information conveyed to the consumer and in reporting to the stakeholders.

Health and Safety

This principle refers to the effects of the product, including its ingredients or component parts, on the health and safety of the user. Products, when used as designed, shall not harm the health of, nor cause injury to, the user.

Authenticity

Authenticity

The product is authentic, meaning it shall be truthfully represented to the consumer, and produced with respect for the local communities where companies in the product chain operate. Product labelling and communication, in all forms (website, television, radio, billboards) shall be truthful and verifiable. Information regarding product composition, ingredients and processes shall be publically available or available upon request.

Transparency

TransparencyThe company shall make information about the product's sustainability impacts throughout the product chain available to all stakeholders (which include but are not limited to consumers, employees, local community members, investors, regulators and NGOs). Transparency within the product chain fosters a company's accountability, which is in turn enhanced by public reporting and stakeholder engagement.
